PRISONERS SENTENCED

Prisoners were sentenced by his Honour Mr. Justice MaeGregor in tho Supreme Court yesterday. In regard to James Sinclair, aged 47 years, a "wool grader, who appeared on two charges for theft as a servant of: Wilson, Canham, and Co., Wellington, Mr. C. Barrett said that the amount involved was approximately £250, but he vats instructed that £205, the first amount mentioned, was taken jointly with another man, and that £50 was taken by Sinclair alone. So, actually, Sinclair took £150. It seemed that the prisoner had been pressed for money and had succumbed to temptation. The defalcations would never have been discovered had it not been i'or the prisoner's confession to the manager of the firm. His Honour said that it was suggested that the prisoner acted under the other man's influence, but the thefts continued after tho other-man loft the. service. He imposed a sentence of IS months' reformative detention. Robert John Pomeroy, 21 years of age, appeared on three charges of breaking, entering, and theft; Samuel Joseph Pomeroy, aged 20, for breaking, entering, and theft; and Froderick Sven Lamborg, 25 years of age, on three charges of breaking, entering, and theft. Tho Pomeroys wero sent to a Borstal for two years, and Lamberg was sentenced to 12 months' reformative detention.. . Francis William Haekott, 62 years of age, a carpenter, who appeared for sentence for breaking and entry with, intent to commit a crime, was remanded for a medical report.
