TALLOW AND HEMP.
The Department of Agriculture.bus received the following cablegram, dated 18th April, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— . ; . Tallow: Quiet demand at aucticm; 723 casks offered, 184 sold. Present quotations for spot arc: Mutton, fine 2<ts, fair to. good 21s to 935, dark to dull 19s 6d to'2os; beef, sweet and/or mixed 23s to 245, fair to good, 21s to 235, dark to dull 18s to 19s Cd; mixed, fair to good 21s to 22s 6d, dark to. dull 18s to 19s 6d; ' gut, etc., lCs to 19s. Hemp: Manila market easier on limited support, and more offering. "X" grade for April-June shipment sold clown to £18 10s. Sisal: Market quiet. No. 2 fair, average quality sold for March-May shipment at £16. Good marks lor April-June shipment quoted at the close at £17 ss, and fair average quality £17. Javanese pressed for sale, and large quantities offered for shipment until the end of the year on the basis of £16 15s to £17 15s for "A" grade, according to position. New Zealand: Market inactive and unchanged. No first-hand sales reported.
