TROUBLE AT DENNISTON
POWER-HOUSE ; WORK
{By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WESTPOET, 18th April. Owing to a dispute at Denniston ovei the hours worked by the men at the power-house, the Westport Coal Company's Dennistou mines have been idle since 4th April. The union took exception to the men being called out for less than eight hours, and made a request on 6th April that in future employees in the powerhouse should be guaranteed full shifts wages irrespective of the time worked. This was declined, and the men ceased work. The management contend that the men should have worked pending reference of the matter to the disputes committee, but the men contend that prior to the reference to the disputes committee the old order of full shifts should have been observed.
