EX-PREMIER RETURNS
TO FACE INQUIRY
JAGA EXECUTIONS
MADRID, 18th April. The ex-Premier of Spain, General Berenguer, has surrendered to the Republican authorities, but he has not been arrested pending an inquiry into the Jaea executions. He returned from Lisbon, voluntarily proposing to visit the Republican Premier, Senor N. A. Zainora. The Municipal Cduneil, wishing to obliterate all memory of the monarchy, is remaining many of the streets after Republicans instead of Eoyalties. Spanish warships aro being renamed. The Alfonso XIII. has been renamed the "Espana," .the Queen Victoria Eugenia is now tho Republica, and tho Principe Alfonso has become the Libcrtad. The Government is attempting to prevent an exodus of cnpital abroad. Tho Duchess Alba, wife of the ex-For-eign. Minister, was stopped on the frontier carrying a bag containing £14,000. Customs officers removed the money and placed it in a bank in her name.
