' -Tlie Pcfcone Rifle Club fired the third match counting for the extra short range handicap scries at Trentham on Saturday, ranges 300, 500, and GOO yards (7 shots). The attendance was good for so late in the season, and the shooting conditions were very favourable. At 300 yards E. Ballinger topped tlie' scoring with a good possible (3/i). \Y\ M'lvor commenced with an "inner" to carry on with "bullseyes" and finish with 34. R. 11. Nicholl, AY. H. Ballinger, and A. Ballinger were next with 3,' i. At 000 yards the wind required watching; but here flic scoring was consistently high. W. Johnston, AY. H. Ballinger, and R. H. Nicholl each made possibles (35); B. Ballinger (with an "inner" for last shot) aud AY. Jacksou scored 34, and AY. M'lver 33. The light continued good at the COO yards range; and the six top scorers at this, stage had a chance to make the 100 or more. AY. M'lver, 1?. Harris, and J. Ashman topped the list here with 33, followed by AY. H. Ballinger, R. 11. Nieholl, W. Jackson, A. Scott, and T. AVarburton with 32 each. AA rith such brilliant range scoring, the aggregates off the gun were well in excess of the club standard; and three members (AY. M'lver, AY. H. Ballinger, and R. H. Nicnoll) scored 100 out of the possible 105. E. Ballinger followed with <J3, AY. Johnston OS, aud AY. Jackson 9G. The spoon winners for the day were AY. Johnston and AY. M'lver in A grade, C. Lusty and A. Scott iii the lower grades. In conjunction with the day's shooting a match was fired between teams chosen by Deputy-Presidents M'lver and Jackson, and representing Town versus Country members. The Town team was successful in winning by 9 points after a keen competition. With such tall scores being registered it is difficult to nominate 'a closing date for the club shooting; but the final match for tlie extra short range series will be held on Saturday, 2nd May.
