EVANS BAY HANDICAPS

Races postponed from earlier in the season were held by the Evans Bay laclit and Motor-boat Club yesterday. Owing to the almost complete absence of wind the ocean race for keelcrs to Island Bay and back was abandoned. The Phantom won the George Challenge Cup for^centre-1 boarders, with the Clyde second, and the Kio 11. third.' First place m the geneial centre-board handicap went to the Clyde, the Indolence, and Lanchlan's Jewel be,g second- and third, respectively. The | handicaps, finishing .times by the clock, and corrected times were as follows.— George Challenge Cup. Phantom (J. Trayers), Brain, 13hr 41min 56sec, 12hr 3omm 56sec .... JClyde (C-Holmes), 2min,.l2hr 40mm . 3Usee, 12hr 38min 30sec - Kio 11. (Bolland and Fogelberg), ser, I 12hr 42min Sssee, 12hr 42mm 55sec 3 Also started: Idono (3min), Betty (scr), mm), Southern Maid (10mm), Violet (12min), Bpnzo (Bmm). General Handicap. Clyde (C. The above being the final events o£ the season, the championship pennant lor centre-boards has been won by the Clyde, with the Betty second, and the Kio 11. third. R.P.N.Y.C. CUP RACE. On Saturday afternoon the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club held the last ot the season's races for keelers, the trophy being the Maxwell Eating Cup. Ihe starters were the Marangi, Ailsa, and Viola. A fresh north-westerly breeze at the start gave promise of an interesting contest, and good times by the competing yachts. Ihe boats crossed the starting-line almost together, the Ailsa being first over. At Point Jerningham the Marangi led, with the Ailsa 22sec, and the Viola 38scc behind. Ihat order was maintained throughout the course, which was round the southern blinker to Somes Rock mark, and home to the finishing line. At Somes Rock, roundiDg times were: Marangi, 4hr 11mm 30see; Ailsa, 4hr 15mra; Viola, 4hr 23min. On corrected time, the Ailsa was declared the winner by 6see from the Marangi, the Viola being about 6min further back. In the 13ft and under class, the race postponed on account of heavy weather on loth1 November, was' decided. Only five of the original eleven entrants crossed the starting-line, and the winner, the Wellesley 11., was never headed. The Kio 11. was under-canvased, and did not gam a place. ..
