FUNCTION ,AT WANGANUI (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WANGANUI, This Day. The Wauganui Airport was officially opened on Saturday afternoon by the Minister of Defence (the Hon. J. G. Cobbe) in the presence of 4000 people. Mr. Cobbe, the Hon. W. A. Veitch, and "Mr. .W..J. Poison, M.P., flew to the airport from Wellington. Others present were the Mayor, Mr. W. J. Rogers, and the president of tlio Aero Club, Mr. A. S. Burgess. After the official opening, Miss J. Winstone made the first official landing. Stunting and bombing was indulged in, the bombing events being won by Flight-Lieut. S. Wallingford. Seven aeroplanes took part in the proceedings. The airport is ideally situated on Landguard Bluff, close to the city, where a large area is available.
