REACTION CONTROL
Constructors who have, difficulty in controlling the reaction- of their receivers on account of the variable condenser being too large are often advised to reduce its effective capacity by connecting a fixed condenser in series with it. This will work in some cases, but in many it will not. The trouble is nearly always experienced lat the minimum position of the variable condenser; that is, it will not go "low enough." The application of the wellKnown rule for the joint capacity of condensers in series shows that the reduction brought about is least—indeed, it is quite trifling—when the variable condenser is at a low setting. A very much better and more reliable remedy is to take a few turns (ono at a time for preference) off the reaction coil.
