THOSE WHO MAY VOTE

ROLL CLOSES JO-MORROW

The main roll.for the City Elections closed some weeks ago, but the supplementary roll is open till 5 o'clock tomorrow afternoon, and those- who arc in doubt whether their names appear on the main roll have not very long to make sure, and to make application if necessary.

The roll can be. seen at the Town Hall, at post offices, and a number of suburban shops and stores, and application forms may bo obtained at .any of these places.

Wives possess tho same.voting rights as their husbands, i.e., the wife of a ratepayer is classed as a ratepayer, but though the ratepayer's name goes c^vn on the rolls without application (from a check of the records of the Rates Office) it is necessary for tlio wife (or the husband) of the ratepayer to make application for enrolment. There are no loan proposals for ■consideration this .year, and therefore there is no special ratepayers' roll.

The residential qualification applies to all persons over the age of 21 years who have been resident in tho Dominion for twelve months and in Wellington for three months, and in addition there is a special, occupier's qualification, which applies to persons whose homes may be outside the city, but who pay annual rentals of £25 or over in the city.

Is To provision ia made for absentee voting in municipal elections, nor for seamen's votes. An' impression has arisen that hospital nurses are not entitled to vote: that is incorrect, providing that their residential qualification is* satisfied and that their names appear on either the main or supplementary rolls. Hospital patients who cannot attend a- polling place cannot vote, as there is no absentee provision.
