FEDERATION FORMED

RABBIT BREEDERS' CONFERENCE

A decision to form a New Zealand Federation, of Industrial Rabbit Farmers ..as made at the first conference of rabbit breeders in the Dominion, which was concluded yesterday. The necessity for adopting a system of registration of, stud angoras and chinchillas, in order to protect the general public from purchasing, inferior stock, was emphasised by the chairman, Mr. W. G-. Wright. He said that the lask of some such system had already tended to retard the growth of the industry. After some discussion a scheme was adopted. The problem o£ markets for rabbit farmers' produce was discussed, delegates expressing their pleasure at the present very satisfactory state of the market for angora wool. The federation is to negotiate for immediate payments for all angora wool sent under its direction, and a scheme for the disposal of chinchilla pelts was approved. The secretary was instructed to write to the Department of Agriculture advising that the federation will be pleased to co-operate with the Department -in furthering the interests of the rabbit industry. The Minister of Customs is also to be written to in respect to the duty on angora wool yarn of New Zealand origin. The present duty, it was felt by the conference, considerably hampered the manufacture of angora wool garments in New Zealand. At the conclusion of tho conference the president expressed his satisfaction with the manner in which the business had been done, and, in wishing the delegates a successful year, assured them that there were great opportunities in the industry. The following officers were elected for the federation:—Patron, Mr. R. W. Hawke, M.P.; president, Mr. W. G. Wright (Christchurch); vice-presidents, Miss A. Myers (Feilding) and G. E. Rogers (Hawkes Bay); secretary, A. Lawrence (Christchurch); organiser, Y. H. Benton (Wairavapa); executive, Miss W. Kellar (Auckland), E. Cox (Canterbury), P. Hill (Southland), A.
