SAILORS' FRIEND SOCIETY

On Good Friday the usual hot cross bun tea was held at the Sailors' Friend Society rooms. There was a fine gathering of men, all of' whom stayed to the songservice, led by the missioner, Mr. James Moore. Mrs. H. G. Good was at the piano. On Easter Day large congregations met for worship, when the missioner's subjects were "Lessons for Easter" and "A Bright Note." Mrs. H. G. Good was at the organ. The service in the church _ was followed by a song-Service in the institute. It was very largely attended. The instrumentalists were Mrs. Good and Messrs. Parsons and Weston. Tea and supper were arranged for by I*dy M'Gavin and Mrs. Hector. The song-service was led by the missioner. Easter Monday was. a full and happy day of bright events. Novel games were led by the missioner, assisted by his helpers. Lunch, tea, and supper were served by a band of ladies led by Mrs. Moore. Even after eleven hours it seemed that the men would never tire of the fare provided. The prize-winners in the day's eveats were: Mrs. Morrisby, Misses S. Colpus, J. Colpus, and E. Colpus, and Messrs. Smith, M'Leod, Ferguson, Walkden, Burke, Stewart, Clouston, Eoy, Greevea, Lloyd, Bettell, Watson, Bn'son, Murphy, Baylis, and Smith. England beat Scotland in a tug-o'-war, and New Zealand afterwards beat England. The party paused in their pleasures to express sympathy with the relatives of the man who had lost his life by the accident on the Tamaroa.
