Four youths, of ages from 16 to IS ! years, appeared before Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M., in the Children's Court at Lower Hutt yesterday charged with the conversion, between them, of five ears and a motor-cycle. They pleaded guilty to all charges. The first series of offences took'place on. the night of Saturday, 21st March. After a dance .two of them took a motor-cycle from a house in Lower Hutt and rode in to Wellington. There one of them removed a small car from Wellington terrace, and the pair drove together until near Ngahauranga, the cycle was abandoned, and they continued in tho car to Lower Hutt. There one of them stole another car of identical make, and they went to Moera, where the first car was abandoned. They picked up another youth, and the three went to Trenthani and back in the Becond car, which was left near the first. at Moera. They decided to take another, but., having pushed it round a corner they could not start it, so they all went home. : On Sunday night, 22nd March, the four youths met and took a 'car from Lower Hutt. After driving round for a while thoy took another car, and drove tho two vehicles up the Wainui road, where one ran out of. petrol and the other developed a defect in the steering mechanism. All got into the good car and let it run down to the foot of tho hill whore they abandoned it. The police had been informed of tho removal of tho cars and within a few hours arrested tho culprits. Two' of the accused were placed under tho supervision of the Child Welfare Officer for twelve mouths. Ono was committed to the cave of tho Superintendent of: the Child Welfare Department until he is 21 years of age, and tho other was admonished awl discharged.
