ON TRENTHAM TRACK

FiftiAL EASTER GALLOPS

SOME INTERESTING WORK

Tlie outlook was not promising early this morning at Trentham, but the rain held off and the tracks were fast for galloping. The centre of the trial grass, on which the-distances are slightly over those named, and the plough .were both available. Unlesa otherwise stated the gallops wore on the grass. Tea Queen, Taura Lad, and Hunting Call worked "before the light had broken. The first pair ran six furlongs together in linin 20sec, and Hunting Call, alone, sprinted from the seven furlongs to the three, but it was not possible to time him. . . ■ While the light was still uncertain, The Sun and Malayan joined in a seven-fur-long trial, The Sun always* shading his companion. They took Xmin 30 3-ssed for the full distance, and 51 4-ssee for the final half-mile. GOOD MAIDEN EFFORT. Joie do Val drew attention to her chance in the Maiden Race. at Tauherenikau by racing in front of Ephialteß throughout a. six-furlong gallop in Imin 15 4-ssee, the last half-mile taking 50 2-ssec. . However, Joie de Val is a customary good track worker. On the plough, Pat's Boy and Foghorn, after a slow beginning, ran the last halfmile of five furlongs in oOsec, being together at the finish. The two-year-old Foghorn has been improving in hia work lately. Also on the plough, Thermopylae, who is to race at Feilding, had nearly a. length the better of La Parleuse at the end of half a mile in 50 3-ssec, the final three furlongs in 37 1-osee. ; Winloch surprised by reeling off halt a mile alone in 49see, moving freely throughout. No rider has yet been engaged for her at Tauherenikau. On the plough, Movietone showed to better advantage than White Squall over five furlotkgs in Imin ssec, the final halfmile taking 51 4-ssec. Fairwind, who will probably have her first race at Trentharn this month, joined in at the half-mile, and was! always in front. LINEAGE GOES WELL. Particular interest was taken in a fiyefurlong gallop on the plough, in which Lineage and Eminent were matched. Eminent was just in front most of , the way, but over the last half-furlong Lineage, who had a light boy in the saddle, drew up to her companion and led him past the post by about half a length. The full time was Imin 3 2-ssec, and for the last half-mile 50 l-ssec. Lineage showed no recurrence of Tuesday's bleeding, and will go to Tauherenikau. On the plough, Hymgreat, who is to contest the hurdles at Feilding, easily beat White Doe, with Henry of Navarre tailed off, over six furlongs in. Imin 17 3-ssec, the final half-mile occupying 52 3-ssec. Prefect unexpectedly accounted for Granado and Acis over half a mile in. 49 2-ssec, the last three furlongs in 36see. Acis was three lengths behind Prefect at the end, but he had much the worst o£ the weights, and the gallop was a fair one on his part. Prefect, a two-year-old halfbrother by Chief Ruler to Royal Finance, has not yet raced. Zephyrus, with a light boy in the saddle, led Conrtlike through a seven-furlong gallop in Imin 31sec, the last half-mile in 52 3-ssee. Cburtlike is not showing the actual brilliance in her work that she did formerly, but she appears to be more solid. Allowing for the difference m weight, there was probably not much between the pair. _ Dainty Ways, picked up by Black JVlmt between the seven and six furlongs, ran a mile in Imin 47 2-ssec. She rattled off the first half in 52 2-ssec. but was steadying up at the finish. NY rider has yet beea engaged for her at Tauherenikau. She looks in capital order, and is a lightweight possibility on Saturday.
