NARROW ESCAPE
DRIVER PINNED UNDER CAR
Mr. X W. Andrews, a well-known business man, of Lower Hutt, and president of the local Chamber of Commerce, was the victim, of a motor accident on the Haywards-Pahautanui road yesterday afternoon when his car was struck by a ear driven by Mrs. A. M. Taylor, of Knights road, Lower Hutt. The accident happened at about 4.30 p.m. on a bend 4 miles from.Pahautanui. Mr. Andrews's car, which was on the outside, went through the fence and, turning over and over, rolled thirty or forty feet down the hill, coming to rest right side up. Mr. Andrews was thrown out and his head was pinned between the- car and the hillside. Fortunately the ground was swampy otherwise Mr. Andrews would probably have lost his life. Mr. W. B. Poarce, who came by shortly afterwards, the brothers Cook, nearby farmers, and the occupants of Mrs. Taylor's car managed to shift the car and extricate. Mr. Andrews, whose face and chest were badly bruised. He was brought to the-Knight's Boad'Hospital, Lower Hutt. A lady passenger in Mr. Andrews's car managed to struggle out of the car and escaped with a severe shaking and bruises. Tlio car was practically wreckod.
