ON TRENTHAM TRACK

EASTER PREPARATIONS

RIDERS AT TAUHERENIKAU

The tracks at Tr'.cntham were in goodorder this morning for galloping, but only' a- few horses actually .ran against; the watch. The middle of. the trial grass, on which the '.distances are gather moro than/those 'named, was; used mainly, but some of the gallops' were, on the plough, which was slightly heavy. Tea Queen,: who has, no Easter engagements, strode :.over seven : furlongs, but sho was never above strong threequarter pace.;. ; . ..;■.. : ; . --.y.]\ ',;■;;: •' "'..'■; On ■.the plough, Hunting.Call was allowed to set his own pace over sbc .furlongs' in lmin 23sec, the: last, half-mile in 56see. E. Burgess-will ride'him ,in the open sprints at Tauliereniiiiu'.,":.';■ y. Malayan, "who is :not.to:raee,:at.vEaster, accompanied .Tanra Lad over, sis furlongs in lmiii 21 2-ssec, the last .halfmile in 53 see ' The. pace was 'increased; to, the straight,: and was''aetually only over, the last, couple' of'furlongs.Taura Lad is to liave .another.l chance. in the Maiden Kaco -at_ Tctttherenikau, in which ~E. Burgess will ride him. h Burgess will also be on The'Snn'in the Tuhitarata Hack Handicap. (The Sun, ;who has been working, late recently, looks in good: order, and:he has apparently benpfited from1 liis races at the Meeting. : ; .. \' Pat's Bpy, who is to be ridden by A. Dick in the Maiden Eac.e at.i-Tauhere-liikau, did a,:round; at a good threequarter pace. Dick" will also 'pilot Movietone in the Nursev'y .Handicap;

White Squall and Foghorn finished together at Hie end of five furlongs in lmin 5 4-ssec, coming homo the last half mile in 51 2-ssec. Foghorn is also to contest the Nursery at Tauherenikau, and he will be ridden by J. E. Nicholson, whose extended ternvof suspension has now expired. White Squall goes to Fcilding, and will probably be ridden by P. Shirkcy. On 'the plough, Thermopylae drew out half a length ahead of La Parleuse in the. closing strides of three furlongs in 37sec. Thermopylae is toaccompany Hymgreat, and White Squall to Foilding, and will probably be ridden by A. Jenkins, who will also-bo on Hymgreat. Other members of W. Hawthorne's and G. Jones Js team in active work were exercised only. TO GO TO COAST. Invite sprinted six furlongs under a good hold. A decision1 had; now been made to send her down to Greymbuth for the West Coast meetings, and she leaves to-morrow in charge of J. Thomas to join H. Pritchard's team. Joie de Val covered six furlongs at a strong three-quarter pace. She goes to Tauherenikau, where she will make another attempt to break hor maiden status. Either T. Green or E. E. Coveny will have the mount. Tho distance of the Maiden Bace (seven furlongs) is likely tcftsuit her better than six, for she ran a fair mile among the hacks' at the Wellington Meeting.

Tobaccoland, who has accepted for the hack seven in preference to the open seven at Tauherenikau, was'exorcisod only. T. Green is to ride him ftn Saturday.

•' Epialtcs and Winloclr were partnered over five furlongs, the former coming away strongly at tho 'finish to pass the pos,t a couple of lengths in front. The time was lmin 3 4-ssec, and for the last half-mile 50' '■ 3-ssec. No riders have yet been engaged for the1 pair at Tauherenikau, where they both figure in the same race. .

White Doe and Courtlike, set outito do a mile together, but they rattled on the pace for the first half-mile, which they covered in 50 4-ssec, and were tired horses before the finish, the last half-mile taking them 55 4-ssee. White Doe, in contrast .to Saturday's trial, was always doing her work the better. The explanation is probably that the riders wero interchanged. S. Gerrand will pilot Courtliko at Tauhereniiau. Tho three-year-old Bright Song (Hunting Song—Brightly), having her first gallop, sprinted, down the straight with the two-year-old Araios (ArausioJerda), the latter finishing, about a length in front. Both showed an attractive style of moving. On the plough, Henry of ■ Navarre traversed six furlongs in lrain 19scc, doing tho final half-riiile in .53sec. He carries a more racy appearance as the result of his outing at Trentham recently, but he may not be ready to do his best yet. Also on the plough, Dainty Ways strode over six furlongs in linin -20 l-ssec, coming home the final half-mile in 53sec. S. Gorrand rides her in the Easter Handicap at Tauherenikan. LINEAGE BLEEDS. Lineage was responsible for an exceptionally brilliant trial over ' seven furlongs, when, with a very light boy in the saddle, she traversed the^ distance in lmin 28sec, doing the-1 final half-mile in 51see. However, the effort struck at a weakness, for she faltered on passing the post, and when she returned to the centre it was seen that she was bleeding. The trouble may not be serious, but it suggests a reason why she has not repeated her best track trials in her recent races. If she runs at Tauhcronikau W. F. M'Dowell will be in the saddle. On the plough, Historic and. Zephyrus were associated over six furlongs, the former drawing out to lead his companion home by a good couple of yiigths. The full distanco was not timedj but tho last half-mile took 51 3-ssec. Historic leaves for tho SoufE to-morrow. Zephyrus is to bo riddon at Tauhorenikau by 'W. J". M'Dowell, who will also be on Acis. Acis galloped with Eminent, who lost three lengths at tho start of half-a--milc and then was practically up with the two-yoar-old at tho finish. However, ho had much tho better' of the weights. Aeis's time was 49 4-ssec, and Eminent's was somowhat Ketter. B. H. Morris is. to ride Eminent on Saturday.

The two-year-olds Granado and Prefect sprinted half-a-mile in 49sec, the latter, although at the worst of the weights, finishing some lengths in front.

The only Trentham horse besides Historic going South is Gay Court, who also leaves to-morrow night.

E. J. Maekio will not now be riding (it Tauheronikau, but will be at FeildL ing, whore he has been engaged for Arajean, Fitzquex, and Just an Idea.
