UNEMPLOYED GIRLS-AND WOMEN .

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—May we, through your columns, draw attention to the desperate straits to which- many women and girls are reduced through unemployment. We earnestly request all women more fortunately placed' to co-operate by offering work of any description by the hour, day, or week.' We would suggest that all possible wouldbe employers communicate with the Government Unemployed - Registration Office (for girls and women), Te Aro Post Office, Ghuznce street, and state their requirements. We feel strongly that each individual offer, in this direction will do something towards solving this pressing problem, and we,urge the women of Wellington to make this their Easter offering withe benefit o£ those in such untoward and necessitous circumstances. Wo recognise that -the economic situation is everywhere difficult,.but v/e might further suggest a continuance of the fine spirit manifested during the earthquake I crisis. Many o£ these women are trying to subsist in rented rooms, and thenstate is pitiable. Many would willingly give their services in return for a home or a nominal wage, and an arrangement o£ this sort might be of untold ■ benefit to some pending better times, while it would also represent an effort to meet the situation on the part of the women citizens of Wellington.
