NELSON NEWS

THE COLLEGE REUNION

SATURDAY'S CRICKET

(From Our Own Correspondent) NELSON, 30th March.

At the Nelson College Old.'Boys' reunion to be hold at the college, at Easter it is hoped to have two old boys, present of the original eight who attended the opening of the school 75 years ago—Mr. H. J. Lewis, of Tahuna, and Mr. Thomas Harley, of Wellington. The principal speakers at the smoke concert next Saturday evening will be Mr. Arthur Fair, K.C., Solicitor-Gen-eral; Mr. 1\ Milner, rector of the Wai•fcaki Boys' High School; and Mr. E. P. Furness, Blenheim. The replies will be taken by the principal, Mr. C. H. Broad; the president of the Old Boys 'Association, Mr. "W. Carrol Harley, and Mr. T. H. 'Williams, president of the Christchurcb. branch. Saturday's cricket at Trafalgar Park saw two records broken—the ie_eord club match total and the record ■wicket partnership. Eesuming their first innings against Colts, with five wickets down for 196 runs (Nealo over a century), Old Boys ran their score to 497 for the innings, the highest total for a club innings for Nelson. E. E. Neale, who scored 194, and E. Vercoe, 102 retired, put on 170 runs in an hour, a record for a sixth wicket partnership. Colts were -dismissed in their second strike for 152, Old Boys winning by an innings and 272 runs. In the first day's play of the College•Wakatu match, College scored 85, Wakatu replying with 225. Wakatu won outright by over an innings by dismissing College for 91 on Saturday. G. T. Campbell scored 42. Langbein took four wickets for 23 runs.' As next Saturday falls, during Easter and football is due to commence on 18th April, it is very unlikely that any further championship games will be played. "Wakatu will presumably take the championship. They and Old Boys' A had still to meet to complete their series, but Old BoyS would have to secure an outright win to alter the position, although they have won more matches. A first innings win only would still leave Old Boys half a point behind. .'

The table of points is as follows: —

P. W. L. ,D. Ptg ftikatu ..V 4 2 1 ' 28J Hd Boys A 7 5 2 0 2a Lthlotio. .7 4 3 0-22 >.B. Colts .7151 9J 'ollego ... 6 2 4 0 8
