BASKETBALL

NEW PLAYING GROUNDS

The annual meeting of the Wellington .Basketball Association (Inc.) was held last evening, Mrs. 11. D. Mvii1 presiding over a large attendance of delegates from affiliated clubs.

The animal report and balance-sheet, details o£ •which have been published, was read and adopted.

Miss E. Campbell, of the Banks College Club, was presented with a prize for selling the most tickets in the recent Pageant of Youth Carnival. Medals were presented to local members of.the North Island representative basketball team.

It was decided that members of seventh and eighth grade teams ' must- be under 10 years and 15 years respectively.

A properly-constituted Hefcrees' Association was formed, the constitution to be drawn up by. the -exceptive. Mrs. Muir pointed out the necessity for this association, and thanks were expressed- to the work its members had performed.

A new interpretation-. was sought in regard to a twelfth line player, and delegates were informed that the New Zealand Council had already taken action in the matter.

The finances of the association indicated that it was in a strong position, and the formation of new playing grounds is to be proceeded with. Various, offers of land suitable for the construction of courts had come to hand,-but no definite decision had been reached. The City Council had promised to subsidise £ for £~ if £250 was raised by the association, and as this had been done, it remained for the City Council to proceed with construction. The secretary, Miss Madson, explained that the four courts were originally to have cost £70 each, but it was probable that they would cost £150 apiece.

Votes of appreciation were passed to Mrs. 'H. D. Muir, and Miss M. E. Armstrong for their work at the Ndw Zealand Council meeting, to the honorary treasurer and ■ solicitor, and to the retiring officers' of the association. The meeting welcomed Mr. and Mrs. V. Bryce, of Napier, who were the president and secretary of the Napier Association, but were now resident in Wellington.
