WELLINGTON GIRLS' COLLEGE

Mr. R. W. Shallerass presided at the annual meeting ot tne Wellington Girls' College Parents' Association last evening. The annual report stated that after eight years of useful work the association was now recognised as a valuable adjunct to college activities. The activities of the association had been restricted for some time by the position of the sports pavilion in the centre of the grounds. Negotiations I were, however, successfully carried out with the Education Department by which a contract was let for the removal of the building. This prepared the way for a comprehensive ■ lay-out of the grounds. Levelling operations to provide ioy four courts were carried out. After this _ had been done it was found that a considerable amount of filling in whs necessary on the boundary with the Normal School. A contract was therefore arranged for cut- | ting into the bank in front of the college, and with the spoil a much larger area of level ground was made available. [it was intended to lay down two hard c6urts on the solid excavated portion immediately. It had been found possible to use unemployed labour in making further improvements to the terrace in front of the college, and in extending the level area by taking off a corner of the existing tennis court. This work was now in progress, and it would be one of the first duties of the incoming executive to decide what steps should be taken to lay down at least two hard courts before the Miss'Greig, principal of the college, paid a tribute to the work of the Parents Association in connection with improvements to the grounds. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President. Mr. H. G. Mayer; vicepresidents, Dr. Gow, Mesdames Bannister and Hefford. Messrs. J. Clark, J. I. Go Idsmith, W. H. Den ton, and G. Mitchell; committee, Mesdames Robins, Grainger, Mayer, Macfarlane, M'Phee, Birch and Sired, - Mes#s. F. W. Grainger D Macfarlane, R. L. Andrew, RW. Shallcrass, J. B. Priestley, L. Sired, C.
