EXPERIMENTS IN BRITAIN

It is stntod that there are now 100 vehicles designed and constructed by Associated Equipment Company to run on heavy oil instead of petrol which are doing duty on roads. Twelve experimental omnibuses of this type havebeen supplied to the London General Omnibus Company and are operating both on country routes and under hoayy traffic conditions. Three months' trial will be given before tlio company can decide whether the heavy oil compression ignition engine is yet sufficiently advanced and reliable to be employed throughout the service. Heavy oil engines are economical and practically immune from n're risks. Their adoption would bring a reduction in the cost of transport.
