FAITHFUL SERVICE

PETONE FIREMAN'S RECORD

Tho twenty-seven, years' service to the Petono tfiro Brigade which has been rendered by Superintendent James P.. Gayuor was the subject of many eulogistic remarks at tho "meeting of tho Potoue Fire Board yesterday. Tho matter was brought up by Mr. G. C. Edwards, who moved that the board should plaoo on record its appreciation of the superintendent's long and faithful service. Speaking for the insurance companies, he said that too much praise could not be given to the superintendent. That tho Petone i Fire Brigade was one of the most em-' cient in the Wellington area was due largely to him. The motion was carried with acclamation. Similar congratulations were extended by the Mayor (Mr. D. M'Kenzie), Mr. J. Kerr, and Mr. H. A. Eyder. It was suggested that the superintendent's honorarium should be increased. In returning thanks, Superintendent Gaynor said ho could have accomplished nothing without the hearty support of officers and men of the brigade. He mentioned that his early training was obtained from Deputy-Superintendent Ryder, who was now a member of the board. The increase in honorarium he declined with thanks. Letters of appreciation are to be sent by the board to four other longservice members of the_ brigade—Fireman H. Turner, who joined in 1898; Foreman H. Selwood, 1903; Fireman J. May, 1907; and Fireman O. Silbery, 1910.
