The doath oi: Mr. Tim Hoaly, first Governor-General of the Irish IVce State frosn. 1922 to 1028, oecuvred last night at .his home near Dublin, after a short illness, at tho aged of 75. He had boea' suffering from jaundice for a fortnight, and ho developed dropsy and sueeumsbed from heart failure. A railway clerk at 16, Mr. Hcaly took to journalism, and joined tho Home Rule movement, under the influence of Parnell, whom he later opposed. He was 25 when he first entered the House of Commons in 1880, aiifl ho became a famous figu.™ in the group of Irish Nationalists,, having great gifts in dobate, and a scintillating wit. The "Tiinets," ill an obituary notice, suys that appointment of Mr. IloaJy as" the first Govemov-Gcneral of the Irish Frco Stsate was a fitting rouiiiloO! of an astonishing career as a Nationalist. To tho general satisfaction, lie enhanced the dignity of his office, i though lie never attempted to influence the policy of Ministers.
