BREACH BY HOTELKEEPER

ASHBTJRTON, 27th March.

In the Magistrate's Court to-day, Mr. Orr-Walker gave reserved judgment in a case in which W. Eobinson, licensee of tho Chertsey Hotel, was ' charged with selling liquor at other than his licensed premises, and also with aiding and abetting one. Laffey, in the offence of selling liquor without a licence. On the first charge a fine of £20 was imposed, and the second was dismissed. Laft'ey was the defendant's agent at Ashburton, and accepted verbal orders which he telephoned to the hotel, liquor being sent to Laftey, who handed it to tho purchEisers. The Magistrate held that this constituted a sale at Laffey's premises and not at the hotel.
