The coinpetitiori wasXopen to students throughout the Empire^ and the competitors in the senior division: had to be over sixteeen years> of,, age.. ; Mss Eceles was first on/the1 list of thpse who received honourable mention in New Zealand. ,' '.'■''■ ■William Lloyd Barry^of St. Andrew's College, Christchurch, gained J second place for the ;Empire for the junior essay, for which the subject- was "The Story of the Canadian Railways."
