LAST WEEK'S RETURN

The total number of unemployed registered at Labour Bureaux, throughout New Zealand for the week ended 23rd March was 33,945, compared with 31,678 for tho previous seven days^ 'an apparent increase of 2268. . Beturns supplied by the Minister of Labour (tho Hon. S. G. Smith), howover, showed that although now or renewed applications for work totalled 54.02 during the week, 21,618 men wero qualified for and placed in work under tho Unemployment Board's second and fifth schemes, which meant that there was an actual decrease for the week of 3114.
