A Farewell Party. A pleasant afternoon party was given at Kirkealdie-'s tearooms by Mrs Henry Hadfleld and Mrs. Chatfleld yesterday, when Miss Margaret Fraser was the guest of honour. Miss Fraser is leaving shortly for Sydney, with her mother, Mis. L. P. Frasor, en route for England, whci'O Miss Eraser's wedding to Dr. Maskell will take place. The taialo was charmingly decorated with flowers, and a delicious tea served. Posies were handed to Miss Fraser and her mother, and many good wishes were given from the friends assembled for a very pleasant journey to the Homeland, and a safe return later on. Entertainment at Trentham. A combined euchre party and dance, in aid of the Earthquake Belief Fund, was held in the Tea Kiosk, Trentham, under the management of the Upper Hutt Home and School Association. A most enjoyable evening was spent by those present, and the fund will benefit by £20. Wellington Garrison Ball. A general meeting of the Senior Cadet Ball. Committee was held recently, when it was decided to disband as a committee, owing to the compulsory training for night-parading companies having been discontinued. The meeting approved of the gift of £30 to the Earthquake. Belief Fund on behalf of the 2nd and 4th Senior Cadet Battalions. It was felt that the_ Cadets would heartily approve of this gift. The objoct of the holding of a garrison ball was discussed, and tho following officers were elected: —President, Lieu-tonant-Colonel J. L. Saunders, D.5.0.; vice-presidents, Lieutenant-Colonel H. E. Avery, Major N. MD. Weir, N.Z.S.C., Captains Andrew, V.C., W. G. Gentry, S. 11. Crump, N.Z.S.C., Captain R. S. Park, 8.N.Z.A., Lieutenant Page, N.Z.S.C., and the Officers Commanding units; chairman of .committee, Lieutenant E. E. Broberg; secretary and treasurer, Lieutenant C. Meachen; committee, Messrs. M. Gilbertson, F. B. Philpot, L. Ycatcs, S. H. Whittaker," W. E. Swenson, A. Pailthorpe, J. Blair, M. Crisp, and K. Watson. It is hoped that the Wellington Garrison Ball, which is to bo held on the King's Birthday (3rd June), will be a feature of this year's social functions, and that many old friendships will bo renewed. Long Service. Miss F. 15. S. Benzoni, resident teacher at Kilbirnie School, and Miss W. L. Stevens, assistant at Mount Cook School, are retiring. At this morning's meeting of the Wellington Education Board it was decided to place on record their valuable services over r. period of 2G$ years and 36J years respectively. Golf Opening. Players from all the Wellington golf clubs wore invited to take part in 'a, Canadian foursome at Miramax on Tiics-! day, when the -Mirainar Ladies' Club; held their "opening" day. Beautiful j weather conditions helped to mako the day a very successful one. Nearly one hundred members of the club and visiting players were entertained to tea! by the president, Mrs. Didsbury. Dance Pupils. A dance programme comprising English, Scottish, Irish, Russian, and Spanish dances was given recently for tho residents of the Home for Aged Needy at Newtown. This excellent programme, which included a charming minuet and " The Wedding of tho Painted Doll," was provided by Mrs. Kidson and her dancing pupils. _ The attractive frocks and the dancing gave great pleasure to the residents, who wore most appreciative. Miss Hilda Chudlcy played the accompaniments. Tho matron, "Miss E. Mackay, and the stuff attended, and at tho conclusion of the programme, Mr. H. Lancaster (on behalf of the matron) thanked the organiser aud the performers. District Nursing. The report read at the recent meeting of tho Petonc District Nursing Committee stated that the rooms in Bay street, lately occupied by the Plunket Nurse, were being thoroughly equipped, and would open on Monday next, when the district nurse will be in attendance. The thanks of the committee wore expressed to the Borough Council for the provision of tho new rooms, and to tho local sports bodies for their generous' gift of £10, to bo oxpended in assisting maternity cases from the earthquake area. A concert in aid of the goneral fund will be given by the children pupils of Miss Bartosh and other friends. Acknowledgment was made of £1 5s collected by Mrs. Bennett. For St. Giles's Church. St. Giles's Hall was crowded recently when Miss George's pupils gave a concert in aid of the Church funds. The programme was a varied one, including items grave and gay (mostly gay), all of which were capably acted by tho performers. Those who took part were Misses K. Bartosh, L. Luko, "V. Boyd and S, Boyd (recitations), P. Meier, M. Aitchison, B. Eickard, Master L. Eickard, Miss Grey and Masters J. and F. Atkinson (musical monologues), Misses J. Barker aud B. Kean (character sketches), Miss M. Payne, and Mastor J. Wilkinson (Dickens dialogue), Misses D. Parker, H. Mitchell, N. Lock, M. Walker, N. Payne and G. Eobertson (musical play), Misses N. Freeman, B. Eiekard, S. Boyd, B. Kean, V. Boyd, and Master J. Hunter (children's comedietta), Misses A. Woodward, G. M'Conchie, E. Bell, N. M'Kittrick, J. Rosenberg, J. Perry, and M. Hart (comodiotta), Miss Peggy Smyth (dance), Mrs. Astill and Mr. H. Maxwell (songs). During the interval, Miss" George was presented with two bouquets. Miss Eobson played tho accompaniments, and the stngo management was in the hauds of Messrs. C. George, V. Manthell, and E. MacGregor. Wedding in Vancouver. The wedding was celebrated recently at St. Mark's Church, Vancouver, of Yvonne, daughter of Mrs. E. Sinclair, late of Wellington, and Mr. Donald E. Iliitehiiwon, Boltou, Lancaster, England. Tho Key.. Canon Sovereign officiated. The bride, who was escorted by Mr. Fred Arnold, Vancouver, wore a, long frock of cream ailk lace, aud a voil of silk net. Her bouquet was of roses and carnations. Miss Phyllis Walmsley was bridesmaid, and Mr. Walter Walmsley best man.

Later Mr. and'-Mrs. Donald-Hutchin-son loft for a trip to Seattle, the bride wearing a blue ensemble trimmed with j squirrel fur. Girls' Friendly Society. A council meeting of the Girls' Friendly Society was held recently, when Mrs. Sprott (president) was in the chair. The various branches were well represented. The principal, Miss Glccsou, is away on holiday, aud it was reported that Miss Jonkyns was tilling the position in tho meantime. Mrs. Waghorn, assistant secretary, is carrying on the work iv the unavoidable absence of Mrs. Christie (secretary). It was reported that Miss Tcndall (hon. treasurer) had been able to pay £.300 into the building fund. At tho same time it was fonnd that certain debts made very careful expenditure necessary. It was mentioned that the earthquake refugees sheltered by the G.F.S. Lodge had returned home, but tho making of garments to help still continued. A report was made of the Borstal entertainment, at which kind help had been given, and an energetic band of entertainers, trained by Mrs. Pearson, had given a much-appreciated perform ance. A vote of sincere sympathy was passed to bo forwarded to Miss Humph ries on the occasion of the death of her mother. Both Mrs. and Miss Hum phries were valued friends of tho , G.F.S., and Miss Humphries has been, for many years, a vice-president, a literary associate, and a working associ-. ate of the Society.
