MQRE VALUELESS CHEQUES
A plea of guiltj' was entered by Arthur Cecil Dalley, an accountant, when he was charged before Mr. "E. Page, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court to-day on two counts of obtaining £8 10s by means .of valueless cheques. Dalley was sentenced to- three months' imprisonment on each charge, the sentences to be concurrent. Sub-Inspsptor Ward said that Dalley, after cashing the first cheque with an hotel keeper, went to his brother, who paid tho money. The brother subsequently reported the matter to tlio police, as he said that Dalley should not go'around acting like he, was. A week later Dalley cashed another valueless cheque. He was a married man with one child, and had been boforo tho Court previously for similar offences. The reason he gave for the present, offences was that ho was out of work and was "hard up" and wanted the money to keep his wife and child. "Ho has had ample warning about this class of offence," said Mr. Pago when, sentencing the accused. Mr. D. Perry appeared for Dalley.
