"FALSE SECURITY"
MASTERTON'S WATER
SUPPLY
(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post")
MASTERTOX, This Day
A somewhat startling statement was made by Inspector T. T. Hugo, when speaking at the annual reunion of the Masterton Fire Brigade last night, with reference to the borough water supply. "The people of Masterton," he said, "are living in a sense of false security. I have seen a lot of different water installations, but I have never seen a worse one than this, is at present."
The Mayor, Mr. T. Jordan, said the council was not satisfied with the water supply, and was not asleep about it. He recalled the fact that about six years ago a poll had been taken on the question of going further up the Waingawa river for the supply, where it would be out of danger, but it had been turned down. It was proposed to ask the ratepayers if they had any confidence in their engineer, and he hoped that before long they would endorse a plan to put the borough water supply iv a safe and sound position for all time. They could rest assured that the council was active in the matter.
