RADIO AMATEURS

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—l am writing on behalf of several Hastings residents, whose attention has just been drawn to the letter signed "A Sufferer," criticising an amateur radio man in'"Wellington. We deem it only fair to write to you, for had Mr. J. Mill not had this man (whom we are not personally acquainted with) to test with, the Hastings people would have fared much worse than they did. No one in Hastings is likely to forget the help rendered by Mr. Mill, and we sincerely appreciate this help, which we know was only made possible by Mr. Mill and his friend spending all their spare time in making themselves competent radio operators. ... Would that we had many more who are ready to sacrifice pleasures and j^'ind all their spare time doing the same as those two gentlemen.—Wo are, etc., GRATEFUL REFUGEES. Mr. A. R. Harris,' manager of the Radio Broadcasting Company of New Zealand, and Mr. J. Bingham, chief engineer to that company, visited Masterton last week and met the committee of the Masterton Radio Listeners' Club. They discussed with the committee suggestions for improvements in the reception in the district of the broadcasts of 2YA, and is ia hoped, as a result of the conference, to overcome some of the troubles experienced by listeners. "Sopran^. Solo" asks whether the fee for a listener's licence is to be reduced by 10 per cent, if the 10 per cent, wages cut operates. The answer is in the negative.
