AUCKLAND HARBOUR BRIDGE
A draft of the empowering Bill.designed to give .1 charter to the Auckland Harbour Bridge Company, Limited, for the construction of the bridge, has linen completed and approved by the company's directors and is being submitted to the local authorities most <'oncernod (states the "New Zealand Herald"). These are the Auckland Harbour Board, the Auckland City Council, the four North. Shore- borough councils, and the Waitcinata County Council. It will be considered by these bodies probably this week, and when agreement has been reached will be forwarded for further consideration by the Government, which has undertaken to introduce it in Parliament during the current session. The Bill provides that from a*date to bo fixed the company's affairs shall bo administered by a board of twelve directors, nine of whom arc to be elected by the shareholders in accordance with the articles of association, and three appointed by Uxe local bodies. None of the throe »peal body representatives is Ho be eligible for tho offii'-o of chairman or deputy-chairman. Tho company is to have all the powers of a local authority for the taking of land under the Public Works Act. A schedule to the Bill setting out scalca of tolls makes it clear that: no charge will he made except upon vehicles and animals. Porsons, as Buch, will pay no tolls, whether they o'soss the bridge on foot, as riders or *j nagseagflrs in vehicles.
