MANAWATU MEETING

GOVERNMENTS TAXATION

PALMERSTON N., This Day.

The sum of £3078 12s 4d will be paid to ihe Government by the Manawatu Racing Club by way of taxation as the result of the autumn fixture, which concluded on Monday, the sum being compiled as under: —Totalisator duty £1490 17s, dividend duty £1304 2s, stakes tax £205 ss, amusement fax £78 8s 4d; total, £3078 12s 4d. For. the same fixture last year the sum of £3930 6s was paid by the club, totalisator tax amounting to £1253 19s, dividend duty io £2310 15s, stakes tax £205 ss, and amusement tax £78 8s 4d.

Despite the nil-round decrease in the turnover on the totalisator, tlio sum' handled at the past fixture, amounting to £21,541, as compared with £51,"58' twelve months ago, the Government secures an «veri-greater uhnve in taxation as the result of the increase of 2Vz per cent, in the totalisator tax. The increase in :amusem<ajt tax also brings in an addi'Mpntt Bs4A, despite the decreased at■i&rtdameke.
