RANFURLY SHIELD

A MARLBOROUGH

REQUEST

An application made last November by the Marlborongh Rugby Union for a Eanfnrlv Shield match with the Wellington representatives at Blenheim in the early part of this_ season, which had been deferred pending a report by Mr. A. J. Griffiths, was considered by the Management Committee of the Wellington Rugby Union last evening. Mr. Griffiths said he had discussed the matter with officials of the Murlborough Union. If such a match as requested could be arranged it would be of, considerable financial assistance to the Marlborough body. The matter was settled, however, when it was pointed-out by Mr. J. N. Millard that under the Ranfurly Shield rules the match could not be played. The rules, said Mr. Millard, stated that the holders of the shield could not play a shield match off their own ground until they had-held the shield for two years.
