LOWER HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL

The fortnightly meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council was held on Monday. Present: Sir A. F. Roberts (Mayor), and Councillors A. M'Bain, W. G. Meldrum, D. S. Patrick, J. R. Boyd, F. Campbell, J. Mitchell,. A. Grierson, and A. J. Hobb's. ■ '

The Finance Committee reported that the Mayor had entered into negotiations with a firm with a view of transferring interest to Australia on terms advantageous to the council, the Bank of New Zealand having refused the transfer at terms other than at par. The Mayor reported that he had been successful in obtaining a discount of £212 12s lOd, so that the deal was well worth while to the council. Councillor Campbell: "That will pay for our stand on the Recreation Ground. The Association Football Club was granted leave to erect lights on_ the ground for the purpose of night training. The recommendation of the Parks Committee to appoint a cadet in the horticultural branch of the_ council's activities was held over for consideration by the incoming council,
