SCHOOLS MUSICAL FESTIVAL

In view of the great success which attended the schools concerts given last year during Wellington Music Week, it has been felt by many of the participants that it would be a great pity if some such effort were not made in 1931. Asthere is to be no Music Week this year it would be necessary to organise an independent Schools Musical Festival, and the endorsement of such a proposal by the Wellington Education BoafH was asked for by the Supervisor oil School Music _ (Mr. E. Douglas Tayler) in a letter considered by the board to-day.

Mr. Tayler wrote that the Wellington Headmasters' Association and the principals of many of the secondary, private, and denominational schools had signified their willingness to support such an effort. As regards the share to be taken by vhe primary schools it would be similar to that which they undertooE last year, namely, the formation of a combined choir of about 600 voices to sing at a combined concert to be given in the Town Hall (possibly repeated on a subsequent evening). Rehearsals would be taken after school hours, different sections of the choir being trained by Mr. Ernest Jenner, of the Training College, and Mr. Tayler. Board members viewed the proposal with favour, and appointed Mr. A. W. Hutchings to represent them at the preliminary meeting to be held shortly to discuss the scheme.
