SHOPLIFTING
WOMEN PLEAD GUILTY
HIGH RENTS, LOW WAGES
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) • ■■ V . AUCKLAND, This Day. Two married women, both mothers of large families, admitted charges of shoplifting preferred against them in the Police Court to-day. One stole children's shoes, a frock,; and also a handbag,' and. the other stole children's shoes. . ■■■'."■.•■■■'".• It was stated that one woman had six children and the other ten. The husbands of both were casual workers and paid thirty ' shillings rent. One hvfsband was earning £3 weekly.' Tho Magistrate, Mr. P. K. Hunt: "How can they life on £3- and pay £1 10s rent? Has either appealed for assistance?" A Salvation Army ofiicer said that they had not. ,She intended to help them.' ' '" ■/""■"."'-. The- Magistrate adjourned both cases for a month arid'prohibited publication ■of'the accused women's names.
