ANNUAL CONFERENCE
The twenty-four annual meeting of $he Federation of Master Printers of New Zealand was hold in Wellington on '18th and 19th March. Palamontain f(Wairarapa).' : ..: ' : ': In hisy.presidential address, -Mr. ?Car■gill.saHl, that the Dominion having been affected by the almost unprecedented conditions, which- are world-wide, so that primary;products:were greatly lessened in value, it was but natural that the printing industry, in common with most others, had, experienced a difficult year^-Strenuous :e"ffpr"t's" 'had been made throughout' the.industry" to face the- sitTuation," ah'tl/to'-'mbet the'other sections •ofth'e community iii their requirements, but at the same time consideration had always .been oxtended ±0 .the interests of the.employees in the printing trade. Whilst undoubtedly there would be difficult days'aßcadrthOse could bo largely met by still greater efforts directed towards'the further increase of internal Efficiency in printing factories, 'and by the elimination of waste. In this direction some assistance might bo looked for;.as .-likely:to. arise out of the Government's proposed economy measures 31017.being considered. There wa3.no occasion for undue pessimism. On" the contrary,, he appealed for the display, on the part of all, of. a full measure of the confidence which was so necessary in the restoration of business.and industry of all kinds. .Mr. Cargill referred to the recent. substantial increase in : -wool prices, which promised to be maintained, and said that already this factor liad created an improved outlook on the part of all sections.of the community.
