BLUEJACKETS STEAL CAR
ACCIDENT AND SEQUEL
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) BLENHEIM, 23rd March. Two bluejackets from H.M.S. Diomede who were stranded in. Blenheim and had no means of reaching their ship in Picton before their leave expired helped themselves to a motorcar in Alfred street and left for Picton. At Nolan's crossing the car plunged down on the railway line and ; capsized, pinning the two men. They were discovered by a motorist and conveyed to Picton and handed over to the warship. Their names are Charles William Henry Mackie and Harold William Rawlinson. The car, the property of Mr. J. M. Tripe, of Koromiko, was rather badly damaged. The sailors were brought before tho Court and chargfed with wrongful conversion. Mackie was fined £20, in default three months' imprisonment, and was ordered to pay £20 toward the cost of repairs, in default two months' imprisonment, the torms to bo cumulative. Rawlinson was fined" £10, in default two months' imprisonment, and- was ordered to pay £20 toward the cost of the repairs.
