GENERAL ELLIOTT, A.I.F.
MELBOURNE, 23rd March.
Brigadier-General H. E. Elliott, aged 53, one of the most popular offices of the Australian Imperial Forces. Ho commanded the Australian troops in the landing at Gallipoli.
Brigadier-General Elliott was born in Victoria, and educated at Ballarat College and Ormond College; also at Melbourne University. He took final honours in Law. He served in the South African war, and received tho D.C.M. In tho Great War he was appointed to the command of the 7th Battalion, Ist Division, A.1.F.;, and ;was wounded in the landing at Gallipoli. He was again wounded in France, where ho received the D.5.0.. He was elected Commonwealth Senator for Victoria in 1919 and 1925, and was solicitor to the City of Melbourne since 1919. He leaves a widow.
