THOUSAND RETRENCHED
EFFECT ON DEVELOPMENT
(Received 2«h March, Iff a.m. ; SYDNEY, This Day. Inability to secure a further loan for developmental work will result in about 1000 men being retrenched on Friday by the Metropolitan Water and Sewerage Board. This represents onethird of the board's regular employees. It is feared that another 1500 will be rendered "idle in the near future, v resulting in interference with the development of various works, which will mean a shortage of water in the city area next summer. •
