MY OWN RECOVERS FORM
1 IMy Own,-who did not stait in the principal handicap on Saturday, made the Necessary improvement on the improving form she showed at Trentham last week io win the Tamalete Handicap decisively frt the finish. The performance was a striking one, for she was not well placed early in the race, but continued to better her position along the outside of the field, and streaked 'past the leaders immediately after they had straightened up for the final run.- She jivas ridden by the southern apprentice, G. Humphries, ivho is attached to J?. D. ITones'a stable. , My Own paid a substantial price, but there was nearly a big surprise in the rare in the second horse, Pahu, who has pnly lecdntly resumed racing. Pahu shot .ihioiigh along the 'rail to the lead outside the .distance, and only My Own was 'able-.to\ frustrate liis- bid'for the main honour. Pahu won the event last year. lie js apparently back in dangerous foim. Ball Dress and Kahikatoa saw to the jpnnning to the straight, where Pahu, My Own, Hoyal Parade, Toxeuma, Moutoa (Treasury, Chopin, and Mountain Heath .■were following them. Onc"e lined up Pahu nhot through to the lead, but he was quickly ditplaced by My Own, who was" not seriously pressed over the final furlong to win by a short -length from Pahu, 31ontoa Treasury finishing fast on the out»!ido into third place only a neck further back. Mount Shannon was a good fourth, and next came Chopin, Toxeuma, Jtail Dress, Shrewd, and Royal Parade. ■. Toxeuma and Royal Parde, the best fancied in the race, appeared to be handily enough., placed together, approaching the straight^.'. but when those behind swept ' past them they .were, effectively blocked in and never afterwards had a chance of iemerging. Ball Dress and Kahikatoa weakened, .after - making .the. running to. the straight. '.Mojitoa:Treasury, 'and Mountain. Heath both put in some useful work over H£b: closing. part; of the race. _ The latter ..was brie of the last horses'most of the ju'ay.;' Chopm was somewhat disappointing Sri both races" at the meeting. ■
