ATHLETE HONOURED
'■A civic reception to the-runner,-Gordon Bayne, was tendered in- the Council Chambers, Petone, last night....".'.'" The Mayor (Mr. D.-M'Kenzie.) .said that it gave him.great pleasure to'express, on behalf of the citizens, appreciation of Mr, Bayne's recent five athletic achievements. The town was proud of him, and wished him every success. ' ' '. ; Mr. H. Sutherland, on behalf of the Wellington Centre; Mr. Youus (Bayne's trainer), Mr. .T. Kerr, president of. the Petone Amateur-Athletic nnd Cycling Club, and Mr. Mark Nicholls -were other speakers. .. . ■'_' .
