FIRST STEP IN BRIAND PLAN
AUSTRO-GERMAN PACT
BERLIN, 3Jst March. Dr. Curtius has announced the conclusion of a preliminary Austro-Ger-man agreemont relating to future customs Union. It is stated in Berlin that its purpose is to l^ike tho first stop toward tlio realisation of M. Briand's plan for an economic European union. Each country retains entire independence, also the right to commercial .treaties with other States, having regard to each other's interests and, wherever possible, conducting such negotiations jointly. The Customs administrations remain separate. Tho agreement is binding for three years, and six months' notice is required for denunciation.
