i SYNOPSIS OF LAST 48 HOURS. While barometers have remained high in th» north, a series of slight depressions has been itosslus Southern New Zealand in front of a. i-ather deep one which has advanced slowly across the Southern Tasman Sea. As a result, strong northerly winds have prevailed during the week-end, accompanied by conslderabla cloud in most parts and mild temperatures. In Hie western districts there has been some light, scattered rain, but during Sunday night a few heavy falls occurred on the west coast and in the high country of the Sorrth Maud, Arthur's rasa had as much as 550 points and Greymouth 112 points of rain.
