Mr. Sadler was born on 12th March, 1868, at Chrlstchurch, and joined this company In November, 1886, as third engineer on. the Te Anau. Before being appointed chief engineer on the Kotuku, in December, 1907, he served as engineer on the' Corinna, Botorua, Tarawera, Walhora, Takapuna, Omapere, and .Arahura. lie has been chipf engineer on twenty of the Union Company's vessels, including the Paloona, Tarawera, Nuviia, and Takapuna, and for the last three years has been chief engineer on the Katoa.
