GRAMOPHONE MERGER

MASTER'S VOICE AND COLUMBIA'

, !. LONDON, 21st,March. ' The stock and share market for industrial shares has been somewhat hesitant, but there was a burst of activity yesterday following the announcement of a Gramophone merger, and thousands of shares of the two companies concerned changed hands. This was stimulated by a demand for shares from Wall Street. The closing price of Columbias was 58s 9d, and Gramophones '53s 9d. As it is believed that the merger will result in such considerable economies that the shares of the new company may eventually be worth 100s, the rush for them is not surprising.

'The amalgamation above, referred to has long been expected, . and rumours of 'it from time to time had been responsible for forcing up the shares. At last, it seems, the union' is now likely to be effected.
