PLAYERS AND FEES
It is not unlikely that many footballers will find it difficult-in the. coming seasons to meet their financial obligations in playing the game, and the question of casing the position regarding the claim, upon players was raised at the' annual meeting of the Wellington Bugby Union last week. Mr. S. S. Dean said that ho felt that a man who was out of work and could not pay hia subscription' should not bo debarred from playing football. The matter of assisting the player in that unfortunate position was, ho considered, one for tho clubs, which could at least meet the player in contributing his fee so far as tho accident fund was concerned. It had been explained by Mr. J. Prendcville that the union's accident account provide! a matter for very serious consideration. An increasing debit .with the increasing number of players meant that some scheme would have to bo devised to improve the stato of tho account. Otherwise, the committee would havo to faco the question of increasing club subscriptions, which it was loth to do. So far as certain payments by players were. concerned, it ■was decidrd by the meeting that one of ita .rules be not enforced during the coming season.
