Charles, a. retired shipowner, who is the great-nephew of General Hoche, the revolutionary leader. , i He learned that his aunt, Madame j Kcsantos, died in 1595 in Brazil. He knew that, she- was the widow of a wealthy planter, and that he was the solo heir, but being possessed of sufficient income to live modestly, he did not prosecute his claim. He has now been notified that a £1,250,000 estate is awaiting his disposal, so he has instructed a Brazilian lawyer to take the necessary steps. Meanwhile M. Charles goes on with his hobby, which is the scientific study of oysters and their artificial fertilisation. _^___
