HOUSE RENTS

(To the Editor.) Sir -Generally speaking the house rents in Wellington arc just about 40 per cent, more than they are in any other city m New- Zealand. Why is this? Does the tenant receive that much more income, than, say, a tenant living in Auckland or elsewhere? I have observed houses nnd flats that have been unoccupied tor twelve months and more on end, simply because they cannot obtain a certain rent tor them. It appears, for instance, tuat it a landlord wants £4 per week for a house he would sooner have it empty for twelve months or more, than lot it permanently for. say, £3 10s. Is it not tune that the Government took sonic action?—l am, etl'' ' I'AY.Li;?.^. |
