HERE AND THERE

Next Week's Raoes. I The Manawatu Racing Club's Meeting will conclude on Monday, and the only other race meeting* during the week will be the Opotiki Meeting on Thursday, and the Otautau and Westport Meetings ou Saturday. There will also be trots at llutt Park on Saturday. Additions to Team. Recent additions to J. T. Jamieson's active workers nt Takanini are Pateena. and Vnli. The former has been in work previously, but no attempt han been made to wind her up, and it is unlikely that anything will be heard of her until she is three years old. She is a big lilly who will take time to mature. About Vali. Vali, last year's New Zealand St. Legor winner, went amiss in Australia in the spring, and be was fired for knee trouble before being returned. He has just started work again at Takanini, and the affected joint seems to have cleaned up well. He is reported to be in nice condition to start another preparation, as during his respite he did not take on a lot of superfluous tissue, and the task of bringing him back should not be difficult. A Real Whippet. Smallest horse racing at Trentham was the aptly-named Miss Whippet, a three-year-old bay filly by Thomond from Little Push, an unfashionably-bred mare by Odessa. Previously referred to as the ■Little Push filly, she has shown a lot of pace on the track up to three furlongs, and although she may never go far she certainly knows how to place her feet. She forfeited all chance in her race at Trentham ou Tuesday by running across the field from the outside. Being only a pony, she may find her metier across the water. Mithra Wins. The former Auckland mare Mithra scored her first win in Victoria when she took the purse at Sandown Park on 11th March. She was opposed by a fair field, but the manner in which she was backed indicated that the stable was fairly confident of success. Mithra, who is by Australian Sun from Bonmn, won very decisively, but had the favourite, Tammit, got away better he would have troubled the winner. About Silver Paper. There are conflicting statements about concerning the condition of Silver Paper, a Great Easter candidate, but latest information from Wingatui is that he is doing plenty of work on the track, and doing it well. There is no reference to anything being wrong with him, aud this negative indication points to all being well with him. Tractarian Resumes. Tractarian, who has recently rejoined G. Feildiiig's stable at Wingatui, is reported to look as if he has been very well done by during his holiday. He was sent over the sod wall and brush double on Tuesday, and jumped them fairly well, but did not have much pace on. On landing over one of the fences he slightly cut his off fore foot, but the injury is not serious. Odds and Ends. Handicaps for the Wairarapa, Auckland, Feilding, and Waipukurau Meetings are due to make their appearance on Tuesday. Acceptances for the Auckland Meeting close next Friday, and for Feilding, Wairarapa, and Waipukurau on the following Monday. Vandyke is doing steady work on the tracks'at Takanini, but he has a pair of doubtful .knees, and J. Gray will have his work cut out in getting him to stand a preparation, notes an exchange.
