AT NEW PLYMOUTH
RIDER FOR LADY QUEX
(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. New Plymouth stables had a good run »fc Opnnake, Gold Dawn winning the open sprint, Little Doubt the hack distance event, and Green Patch the hack six, while Orapai and Hinepuni each collected second money. Superior racing condition stood 1.0 Gold Dawn in the St. Patrick's Handicap, and she won very nicely. However, her form at Bulls behind Cadland was good, and it was not surprising to see her start favourite. Little Doubt was responsible for a good performance in the President's Handicap, as he was well back early, and then did not receive the best of passages. However, he came on the outside in the straight and won easily at the_ finish. Crennatown, according to his usual custom, tailed the field in the early part of the Opunake Cup, and wag last coming out of the back stretch. He then commenced a fast run and, had he not run wide at the turn coming into the straight, would have filled a place. Green Patch, an Acre three-year-old, from the Martian mare Dominant, was responsible for a nice performance when he annexed the Farewell Handicap. He was always well placed, and, talcing command in the straight, had no difficulty in stalling off all challenges, and was going away from the field at the finish. His trainer, R. Johnson, has been very patient with him, and he looks like turning out decidedly useful. Easter Time is making the Paimerston trip, but may not be ready to show his best in the Cloverlea Nursery Handicap on Monday, as he has been suffering from the after-effects of a cold. He galloped three furlongs on Wednesday morning in good style and should not go a bad race. So far no rider lias been definitely enpaged for Lady Quex in the Manawatu Stakes, and if L. G. .Morris is available he will' have the mount. Hud Phar Lap made the trip to Now Zealand, Mr. W. G. Emeny would have bet.'ii willing to ra^.e the mare against him in any race up to one mile, After her faJhree art Optmake, Melissa.
has bean turned out for a spell. This mare has consistently disappointed since the New Year, despite sonio very line track work. If would appear, that the race in the Stratford Cup left some effects that cannot be remedied.
